1. Choose your route carefully
The good thing about traveling to a camper is that you can improvise on the fly. Choose your destination, but don’t rush to travel long distances in a single day. It’s all about enjoying the ride, parking in nice spots to enjoy the scenery, having a cold beer or a delicious coffee. Go unhurried, relax and enjoy.
And how many days? Not too few so that it doesn’t seem short, nor too many so that you end up too tired. Our recommendation is that for your first time you go for 5 to 7 days. This way you can find out if traveling in a camper is made for you or not.
2. Don’t overload the camper with “just in case”
Forget about the “just in case”. Keep in mind that anything you need can be bought in a store or supermarket during the trip. Don’t carry an umbrella “just in case” it rains in the late afternoon; if it rains, it will be a summer storm that you can enjoy from inside the camper or from a beach bar. And if you’re adventurous, just get wet and jump into the puddles!
3. Don’t take the whole closet
It is only necessary to carry 4 or 5 items of clothing. Remember that you will be in a small space for a few days or weeks. The more clothes you take, the greater the risk of losing them, not finding them, getting them dirty… And the less space you will have for yourself.
4. Organize your belongings into boxes and bags
To know where you have everything, it’s best to keep them in the same place at all times. If you decide that the socks will go in the side bowl of your gym bag, make sure to always put them there. We find it very helpful to store some of the food in a plastic box without a lid in the trunk. Clothes can go in the drawers above the seats, medications in a small box inside the closet, and so on.
Remember that if you carry a lot of loose things, when making the bed or table, you will have to find a place to store all this, and it is likely that it will end up on the floor.
5. Be careful with sleeping places
In Spain, it is not allowed to camp freely, and you should keep in mind that opening windows, removing boards, awnings… is considered camping.
A few months ago we prepared a longer article talking about places to stay overnight. So we invite you to take a look at it so that you don’t risk it and do some research before going to sleep anywhere.
